This chapter, in Cultures of Continuity: Jewish-Muslim Conversations on a Contested Ideal (Asher Biemann, Ufuk Topkara eds), describes an approach to inter-theological study, “reciprocal illumination,” where each tradition illuminates and enriches others without project in presuppositions, categorization, etc. It further demonstrates how reciprocal illumination is consistent with Jewish exegesis and interpretive method since the amoraitic period.
